South Shields Marine School offers courses for marine engineers wishing to prepare for the EOOW IAMI exams. The courses studied on campus are a blend of compulsory taught sessions and tutorials with lecturer led teaching and learner led Q+A.

South Shield Marine School is now offering exciting new options for the EOOW Term 1 courses via remote learning.
This will consist of the entire course that is taught at South Shields Marine School being available to attend remotely simultaneously to those on campus. Our experienced lecturing staff will be using wireless microphones in class along with sharing their computer screen, Powerpoint presentations, and handwritten notes, as though you are in the class room.
Remote students will be able to interact with the lecturer as normal and ask any questions they may have via Microsoft Teams, and will receive our full support throughout the programme as they usually would on site with us at our campus.

The courses studied remotely are a blend of compulsory taught sessions and tutorials with lecturer led teaching and learner led Q+A (latest exam questions provided).
You will need to apply to the college for a letter of acceptance onto the rating to EOOW programme as detailed in MSN1857 (M+F).
You need a minimum of 24 months sea service as a watch rating
When applying to the college you will need to send in copies of your sea service testimonial’s for a total of 24 months together with copy of your passport, medical certificate, watch rating certificate and all STCW certificates as listed in MSN1857 which can be accessed via the following link

Alternative Route for Qualified Engineers and Engineering Graduates
You will need to apply to the college for a written action plan as detailed in MIN 511 (M).
When applying to the college you will need to send in copies of your award with its associated transcript.
If subjects such as thermodynamics and control cannot be identified as individual modules but are included in a module such as mechanical sciences then you should also send the syllabus or other document listing the module content.

Attendance
To complete the course, you require 80% attendance, therefore Students are expected to attend all live teaching sessions where possible. Please take this into consideration when enrolling on this course as all lessons will be run UK time and you will be expected to attend the live sessions regardless of time difference.
Please note some courses may require additional progress monitoring through assessment to count towards attendance.
On successful completion of the course you can progress to senior ranks of Second and Chief Engineering Officer will follow further training.
