This 5 day IMO 6.09 Train The Instructor course is designed to facilitate the delivery of training in the competence standards required by the IMO Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended.
Its aim is to provide a useful introduction for those with limited teaching experience and introduce new approaches or serve as a reminder of skills and techniques for those who have been teaching for some time. It is not the aim to provide a full course of trainee instructor training. In addition, it provides a sound basis for the delivery of other programmes.
Delegates who are undertaking this training must already hold an appropriate qualification which allows them to teach within their curriculum area.
Delegates are continuously assessed throughout the course but will have a final assessment on the last day, which is in the form of a microteach. The assessment schedule covers several topics such as: –
Please note that this IMO course does not provide direct employment opportunities within the education/training sector. The training provided on this course is to supplement your existing skills and experience as a teacher/instructor and enables you to deliver training using a range of techniques and resources.
