If you’re 16-18 and studying a pre-cadet course with us, there’s no fee.
For 19+, the course will cost a total of £3,295. [Please note, there is no age limit on the Pre-Cadetship course].
For cadetships, your fee is covered by your sponsorship company.

The Pre-Cadetship course is a one-year programme for both levels 2 and level 3.
The level 2 Pre-Cadetship gives you the opportunity to re-sit your GCSE Mathematics or English should you not already have a grade 5 or above. You will then progress onto the one-year level 3 programme, where you will then specialise in Nautical or Engineering with the opportunity to apply for a sponsorship.
Direct entry onto the full-time level 3 Pre-Cadetship is a one-year programme (where you will then specialise in Nautical or Engineering with the opportunity to apply for sponsorship.
We are determined that financial barriers will not prevent you from attending college. Our experienced Student Services team can give you advice on making the most out of money and where to go for additional help.
Yes! Our onsite student accommodation is available from just £350 per month, with different options available such as ensuites and catered accommodation.

Several of our courses are available with exclusively remote learning, and others have flexible learning, split between time spent learning in the college and time spent remotely.
After completing the Pre-Cadetship, it will provide you with the knowledge and competencies required to be successful in securing a full cadetship.
During your studies, you will receive guidance regarding making applications to
shipping companies during tutorial sessions to gain sponsorship for your cadetship.

We are committed to ensuring that every student enjoys their time with us. Our Freshers’ Week has plenty of activities which are designed to help break down barriers for new students. We also run a full Enrichment Programme, enabling you to meet new people from across the College.

The required dress for all cadets during the college day, when not in the workshop or in practical sessions, are:
- Plain white shirt or blouse, with company or black tie
- Plain black trousers or skirt
- Black dress shoes
Navy blue or black blazer, with company badge (or a plain navy blue uniform sweater or other company uniform, with company’s agreement).
South Shields Marine School ties will also be provided to all pre-cadets.
We have fantastic IT facilities throughout the College, with dedicated suites containing current software and internet access for all students. Our Learning Resource Centre, also equipped with PC’s, provides the perfect setting to complete your work outside of class.
