OVERVIEW

This course is designed to meet the requirements of the workboat code edition 3.

Workboat Code edition 3 states, for any vessel required to carry a stability information booklet, that – “At least Master shall complete an MCA approved stability course”

This course meets that criteria.

 

Topics covered include:

  1. General terms in use;
  2. General Principles of Transverse Stability: –
  • Location of CoG, K, M, CoB;
  • Rolling and shift of CoB;
  • Theory of Moments, Righting levers, List & heel; and
  • Equilibriums.
  1. Adding, removing and shifting weights: –
  • Simple calculation of transverse stability and effects on draft;
  • General understanding of change of trim;
  • Trimming moments;
  • Longitudinal Metacentre & LCF; and
  • Importance of monitoring of any changes, regular checks.
PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Workboat Code Edition 3 applies to workboats that operate to sea, and to all dedicated pilot boats operating either at sea or in categorised waters.
