This course is designed to give those seeking a certificate of proficiency as a Ship Security Officer the essential education and training meeting the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements set out in the following STCW table, which supports Chapter XI-2 of the annex to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974, as amended and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
Those undertaking the training must have either:
● Approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months or
● At the discretion of the MCA – appropriate sea service (minimum three months) and knowledge of ships operations to enable them to achieve the objectives of the training
On completion of the training trainees will be able to undertake the duties and responsibilities of a Ship Security Officer.
Duration: 3 days
Students are required to partake in an interactive element of the learning process to enable those undergoing training to put into practice techniques and procedures for maintaining the security of the vessel through role-play, simulation and scenario-based training. Together with oral questioning and written exams this will form the assess criteria of the course.
